Job Description:
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for a Business Administrator II - Operations Administrator for AVP/Chief of Police to provide executive-level and operational support for a highly visible university administrative office.
Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President (AVP)/Chief of Police for the Department of Public Safety, this position will fully support the Associate Vice President for DPS with calendaring, prioritizing meetings, coordinating meeting materials, composing sensitive and confidential responses, monitoring pending issues to ensure deadlines are met, producing reports, researching issues, monitoring e-mail and mail, handling travel arrangements, organizing presentations, understanding basic DPS responsibilities/priorities and formatting data. This position may be requested to organize and schedule meetings, or complete other tasks as needed for others on the DPS leadership team. This position will also manage the daily operations of DPS, oversee the office, assist with the development and updates to the DPS webpage as well as business office related policies, and back up the records department. Function as the main point of contact for the DPS business and must present a positive, professional image. Will collaborate with the department finance team and have responsibility for all billing and procurement activities within DPS. This position will collaborate or coordinate with various campus offices and units such as University Relations, Trademark, or ISU Human Resources.
The successful candidate will possess excellent time management, problem solving skills and ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment. Strong business acumen and excellent verbal/written communication (including grammar and spelling) are essential to success in the position. The successful candidate will possess the ability to maintain confidentiality and good customer service and interpersonal skills.

Example of Duties
- Represents the department on business affairs and/or faculty affairs to the institution community.
- Monitors and interprets operational policies and procedures in areas such as information technology, communications, and facilities.
- Develops and prepares budgets and financial reports for grants, general appropriations, endowments, and other funds.
- Establishes financial and operational systems to monitor, control, and verify expenditures and carry out financial analysis.
- Manages day-to-day operational needs of a department.
• May assist with employment business needs such as hiring of students, timekeeping responsibilities, • and scheduling.
- May supervise students.
