Deputy Director of Science and Technology

Job Description

DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI), to join MIT’s hub for low and no-carbon energy research, education, and outreach.  Will act as second in command for this dynamic organization on topics related to creating a clean, affordable, and equitable energy system.  Responsibilities include engaging with MITEI stakeholders, both on- and off-campus, to identify opportunities where its faculty and staff can have high impact, develop solutions, and bring them to global scale; play a key role in MITEI’s ongoing activities, including connecting its members to MIT principal investigators to pursue research projects, conferences, and symposia and promote its work to internal and external communities; providing strategic leadership and vision, including matching potential research sponsors with MIT capabilities and fostering relationships with industrial, public, and non-profit partners; assisting with directing MITEI staff--especially in education, research, and communications--to develop and implement programs, projects, and events; and collaborating with the director on supporting MITEI’s priorities and continued success.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  advanced degree in science, engineering, or related discipline; ten years of experience in a leadership position in an organization supporting research relevant to changing the global energy system; broad knowledge of energy- and climate-related matters; success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities; self-motivation; and excellent writing, presentation, communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.  Seek a champion of MITEI’s mission who has experience galvanizing successful research collaborations, a track record of delivering superior results, and supports its commitment to advancing research and policy solutions and fostering collaboration across disciplines and industries as it seeks to combat climate change and expand energy access.  Job #24007
