Function: The Vice President of Advancement (VPA) is responsible for building the strategy for donor development and relationships.
Overview: The VPA leads the advancement functions of Crossroads including the cultivation and development of these relationships. The VPA provides executive leadership to Crossroads Prison Ministries in the areas of donor development, fundraising, and communications that raise ministry visibility resulting in engagement. This position works closely with the President & CEO, the Board, Leadership team, communications department, donors and other key constituents to spearhead development efforts that position Crossroads for continued growth across all segments.
Responsibilities:
Vision, Strategy and Leadership:
- Provide executive direction, innovation, and input in the areas of cross-functional leadership, organizational planning and goal setting, future direction setting and ministry priorities.
- Design and implement a comprehensive fund-raising program and process.
- Provide executive direction for all Crossroads marketing programs and channels to raise ministry visibility resulting in engagement and donations.
- Provide proactive leadership in recommending partnerships, conferences, advertising and media outlets where Crossroads should have a presence. The incumbent is responsible for establishing and maintaining professional relationships with a broad spectrum of individuals who will assist in advancing the ministry.
- Responsible for developing and managing fund raising budgets. This includes projecting income and developing concrete plans for successful implementation during the annual budget development process.
- Manage and develop department staff for optimal performance.
- Possess executive level knowledge of advance strategies to include planned giving, donor advised funds, and business giving strategies such as donation of appreciated assets, etc.
Cultivation and Solicitation:
- In partnership with the President & CEO, raise annual operating budget through direct response marketing (direct mail, email, web, radio, telemarketing, social media) and the active management of a donor portfolio of high mid-level and major donors.
- Manage donor portfolio of up to 75-100 donors. Develop comprehensive plans for developing and maintaining relationships with top donors. The incumbent will actively seek out new donors and cultivate relationships through phone conversations, in-person visits, and appropriate electronic and mail communications.
- Co-Manage donor portfolio of up to 50 donors with the CEO. Create a plan for each donor that is driven by that donor’s passions and interests. Execute that plan, including regular and timely reporting back to the donor.
- Manage implementation of the full development funnel plan including annual giving, major gifts, prospecting, etc.
- Develop an annual plan for major donors, mid-level donors and direct response donors.
- Develop the annual theme for donations and combine it with other communications pieces for donor offers.
- Lead the strategic development of the planned gift area. Create strategic goals and plans to integrate into donor and ministry materials.
- Develop a long-term direct impact strategy that will preserve and grow current donors but also can engage new donors.
- Develop and maintain a robust database of current and past donors for both current and planned gifting operations.
- In consultation with leadership, develop strategic events that promote the goals of current funding, future funding, or active recruiting of donor relationships.
- Develop a long-term church impact strategy that will preserve and grow current church engagement donors but also can engage new churches.
- Responsible for cultivating ministry’s portfolio of mid-major donors and identify top donors for President & CEO’s cultivation as Major Donors
- Develop and oversee implementation of general donor program, including all direct response marketing content and channels.
- Develop donor mailing lists and target lists
- Plan and execute ministry events, including major donor salons, leading team to create tailored messaging and marketing plans to support them. Promote the mission through speaking and community engagement events.
- Work closely with the board chair of the advancement committee to develop and implement an annual board sponsored fund raiser.

Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, philanthropy, non-profit management or another related field.
- 5 years of executive management experience, including strategic planning, motivational leadership, team building, and financial management.
- 5 years of demonstrated success in fundraising integrating marketing and communications.
- 5 years of experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining donor CRM systems including contact management, tracking of tasks and communications.
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows/Office 365 environment
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics CRM a plus.
- Demonstrated strong performance in and aptitude for marketing/communications, including brand building, creative campaign development, digital and traditional channels.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $118,000.00 per year
