Responsibilities
Medical Assistant Scribe duties:
- Responsible for preparing patients for examination and/or treatment and surgically assisting the medical provider as directed.
- Comply with all legal and ethical requirements for medical documentation.
- Alert physician when medical record is incomplete or medical documentation contains mistakes or inconsistencies.
- Collect, organize, and catalog data for physician quality reporting system and other quality initiatives to increase patient compliance and improve outcomes.
- Document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician accurately and thoroughly.
- Perform clerical tasks as needed by the physician including faxing, phone calls, and referral letters.
- Accurately documents data collected into the departments Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Effectively utilizes EMR in support of the visit for orders provided by the Physician, P.A. or N.P., including but not limited to routine department functions (e.g. documenting vaccinations (including appropriate entry into designated registries), ordering diagnostic testing, calling in prescriptions to pharmacy, specialty referrals, transmitting prescriptions, documenting telephone encounters, scanning results and key documents and scheduling appointments). Ensures related reports, results and any other pertinent information are available in patients' chart prior to their scheduled appointment.
- Prepare lab and x-ray results for physician to review and hospital records as needed.
- The MA/scribe will work closely with the provider transcribing charts, navigating the Electronic Health Record.
- The MA/scribe will provide accurate, timely charting of patient encounters, including but not limited to patient history, physical exams, diagnostic findings, lab and test results, diagnoses, discharge instructions, prescriptions, and preparation of lab and biopsy requisition forms.
- Set-up and re-stock exam rooms, checks equipment for functions
- Medical assistant duties as required along with other duties as directed
Qualifications
Minimum
- High School Diploma and/or equivalency required
- Medical Assistant Certificate
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Medical terminology knowledge
Preferred
- Medical Scribe Certificate preferred
- At least 2 years of medical assistant experience preferred
- At least 1 year of medical scribe experience preferred
Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience, respect and courtesy.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; use discretion in handling difficult situations.
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Good knowledge of general back office procedures, such as taking vitals, performing venipuncture, administering immunizations, etc
- Good comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology in English and Spanish
- Emergency response capability for possible crisis situations
- Experience/familiarity with computers, Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel), business e-mail communication systems and internet search capabilities
