The Senior IT Solutions Specialist provides direct user support through consultation and problem troubleshooting analysis, and it receives and processes incidents and service requests. This position serves as an ESC (Engineering & Science Computing) liaison to other University IT units (ex. participating in meetings with OIT).
The Senior IT Solutions Specialist must be able to operate independently to accomplish the primary job duties, and the position requires agility and the ability to multitask, as well as mobility to work between 12+ geographically separated Engineering and Science buildings. Additionally, in-depth troubleshooting skills are required to identify, diagnose, track and resolve technology-related problems, and interpersonal and social skills are also very important as the individual in this position interacts with faculty, staff and students in the Colleges of Engineering and Science, Notre Dame Research, and other University units.

Responsibilities:
- Provide Consulting, Advisory and Procurement Services: Provide advice and guidance on which technologies and IT services would deliver the most business value to customers based on their specific needs. Partner with customers to validate business cases and select best solutions. Understand and Document Customers’ Needs. Procure IT-related hardware & software for customers, adhering to ND procurement standards. Provide computer support for events held within the Colleges of Engineering and Science, and ND Research.
- Support IT Solutions: Provide support to deployed IT solutions, including University standard solutions (e.g. CWP, Google Drive, OnBase, Windows OS, Mac OS) and custom solutions (e.g. custom NAS devices, laboratory computing equipment, Linux OS) including upgrades as needed. Provide expert troubleshooting and resolution of complex issues that central IT support technologists are unable to resolve.
- Implement IT Solutions: Partner with customer, vendor and other ND IT units as needed to design, develop, test, and deploy IT solutions.
- Manage and mentor a staff of student employees working for ESC: This includes mentoring in new skills as well as hiring student staff, scheduling and approving work hours.
- Understand Technologies and IT Services: Keeping up to date on new technologies and the IT services that the OIT provides for its customers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (or similar field), or equivalent experience and knowledge
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide clear and understandable assistance to customers, non-technical audiences and senior management. Strong ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technology-related problems. In-depth knowledge of computer hardware and software. Extensive knowledge and experience with multiple operating systems (ex. Windows, Mac OS X, Linux). Knowledge of Incident Management Software (e.g. Service Now) is preferred. Understanding of computer networks and hardware is essential.
- Mobility to work between 12+ geographically separated Engineering and Science buildings.
