Responsibilities*
Fabricate and install control and distribution apparatus, including switches, relays and circuit breakers/panels. Connect conductors to lighting fixtures and power equipment using various hand tools. Cut and thread/fit and bend/route conduit runs or risers. Dismantle and troubleshoot/repair equipment which could include replacing defective conductors, motor brushes, condensers, and defective fuses. Test/troubleshoot continuity of electrical circuits within installed or repaired equipment using an amp meter/voltmeter/ohmmeter or the ability to use specific electrical drawings/prints for visual inspection. Perform preventive maintenance activities, including periodic visual inspections, cleaning, tightening/securing loose connections. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, circuit diagrams and job specifications. Prepare records and service reports of materials and time expended. Install and operate public address equipment and temporary lines for electrical services.

Work Schedule
* Tuesday through Saturday, 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm (afternoon shift)
Please note: This position may need to work on-call and overtime to respond to afterhours emergencies.

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the U-M Skilled Trades Union, Inc., which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
