Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Finance Department at the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business offers a two‐year postdoctoral fellowship for recent graduates with a Ph.D. in Finance, Economics, or other Social Science disciplines with research interests in public policy.
Post-doctoral researchers will collaborate with faculty members affiliated with the center to work on research projects with Finance Area Professors Vojislav Maksimovic and Liu Yang and DOIT Professor Kislaya Prasad. The focus of the research will be financing and business dynamism in the U.S., analyzing both small and entrepreneurial businesses and large incumbent firms. The postdoc will also help faculty produce white papers related to U.S. business dynamism issued by the Center for Global Business. The principal duties include collecting data, maintaining databases, conducting statistical analysis, and providing other research support.

- Eligible candidates must have completed their Ph.D. by July before beginning the fellowship.
Experience:
- Have at least 3 years of experience working with large data.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Programming proficiency in SAS, Stata, and Python is required for this position.

- Preference will be given to those who have Special Sworn Status and experience working with restricted-use Census data at the Federal Statistical Research Data Centers (FSRDCs).

In addition, the school provides access to standard databases such as those through Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS). During the period of the fellowship, they must collaborate closely with faculty members affiliated with the center on research projects and participate in center events related to their projects. Before entering the second year of their fellowship, postdocs must complete at least one research working paper coauthored with a faculty member.
