Description
Business Office, Watauga performs professional accounting duties involving the general ledgers, accounts receivable, cash receipts and other areas as required; communicate the results of operations both orally and in writing with college personnel and outside agencies to establish and maintain grants and programs.
Examples of Duties
Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Reconcile local and institutional back accounts.
- Analyze institutional and balance claim-on-cash accounts to control account.
- Assist with college P-card program. Post P-card transactions to the general ledger.
- Track and report on construction and capital projects. Maintain projects on interscope.
- Assist in tracking, monitoring and reporting on grants awarded to the college.
- Serve as the primary cashier on the Watauga campus.
- Receive funds from students and employees.
- Prepare bank deposits.
- Prepare and file cashier reports daily.
- Accounts for issuance of petty cash.
- Serve as fixed asset liaison for Watauga Campus.
Marginal Functions:
- Participate in professional development and required employee training.
- Attend a variety of workshops and meetings; stay abreast of new developments in the filed of accounting.
- Assist students and employees, as needed.
- Preform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Working Conditions
Knowledge of:
Generally accepted accounting principles and procedures.
Principles and practices of budgeting and financial auditing.
Modern office methods, practices, procedures and computer equipment.
Governmental accounting principles and practices.
Financial research and report preparation methods and techniques.
Laws regulating public finance and fiscal operations.
Automated accounting and financial management systems.
College policies and procedures.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Ability to:
Develop and implement accounting system modifications.
Analyze and interpret complex financial and accounting records.
Prepare a variety of complex financial statements, reports and analysis.
Develop and administer an efficient records management system.
Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations.
Interpret, explain, and enforce CCC&TI policies and procedures.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Utilize computer equipment and software to produce complex reports, informational items, tracking systems and related documents.
Examine and verify a wide variety of financial documents and reports.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Environmental Conditions:
The employee should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office and classroom workspace and working closely with others.
The employee must maintain the office environment by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.
Physical Conditions:
Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following; standing, walking or sitting for extended periods, moderate lifting and carrying, reaching above shoulder, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and extended exposure to computer screens.
The employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.
Additionally, the employee must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.
Scheduling Conditions:
This is a full-time, 12-month position, which requires the employee to be on campus or at an approved alternate location for at least thirty-six hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-5:00pm, and Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm. This position generally works daytime hours, but has the potential for occasional evening or weekend hours.
Traveling Conditions:
Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus sites may be needed. Out of state travel is limited, but may be required for training and conferences.
Experience and Training
Experience:
Three years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience required.
Training:
Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration or a related field required.
